Tiga versi album: 1. LP 2. Remastered/Enhanced (kiri) 3. Remastered/Enhanced/LP miniature. Yang takde tinggal satu, original version punya CD.

Album Powerslave merupakan album IRON MAIDEN yang pertama yang aku beli sekitar tahun 1985 dalam bentuk kaset. Ketika itu aku di dalam Darjah 4 dan bersekolah di SRK St Michael, Ipoh. Sebelum kaset ini dibeli, pada Hari Raya, aku mahukan baju dengan artwork ini sebagai baju hari raya. Sudah dibelek dan ditanya malangnya tiada saiz ketika itu walaupun saiz S, tak muat!

Seingat aku, album ni boleh kata hampir semua liriknya aku hafal masa mula aku beli dulu. Impressive? Memang. Lepas sekolah, tunggu bas aku melalak lagu-lagu dari album ni sampai senior2 yang kutu rock (Form4-5) semua jeles je nengok.

Immediately selepas rekoding album ni, IRON MAIDEN mulakan tour lagenda mereka, World Slavery Tour. Dikatakan tour yang sold out worldwide tu bermula even before album Powerslave tu rilis. Lepas tu banyak pulak lagu dari album ni dimainkan tapi fans macam faham je. Rasanya sekarang takde band berani buat tu. Main majoriti lagu yang unreleased. Mesti terpinga-pinga fans dok dengar.

Sejarah album ni banyak revealed dalam Live After Death DVD. Walaupun ramai fans boleh bangkang album ni sebagai album yang terbaik dari IRON MAIDEN tapi majoriti setuju kalau aku katakan ini antara Top 3 atau 5 album terbaik. Kalau tanya aku, dalam kelompok Top 3 tu; Powerslave, Somewhere In Time, 7th Son of a 7th Son.

Seperti biasa, kulit album “dilukis” oleh Derek Riggs. Dan biasanya bila melukis beliau pasti menyelitkan benda-benda yang interesting. Kadang-kadang kelakar, kadang-kadang ada unsur sejarah. Tu pasal puas beli rekod ni sebab puas tengok artwork. Saiz about 12 inci x 12 inci. Kalau CD, kena strain la sikit mata tu.

Some of the hieroglyphs on the album cover have a modern twist to them. The details are easier to see on the vinyl record cover than the CD, due to the larger size:

1. The album cover was the first to have the “Iron Maiden”-logotype in a smaller size, just covering the upper left corner.
2. On the bottom left corner of the cover, just behind the first lion are the words “Indiana Jones was here 1941”
3. Next to that is a drawing of Mickey Mouse
4. Above that (past the statues’ heads) are the words “WOT A LOAD OF CRAP”
5. On the bottom right of the cover, just below the right foot of the large seated lion, we see a drawing of Chad peering over the wall, with the words “WOT? NO GUINESS”
6. Also on the right side, above the statues’ heads, the word “BOLLOCKS” appears.
7. At the pyramid’s entrance, Derek Riggs’ insignia appears right where Eddie’s crotch should be.

1. Aces High (Harris) – Lagu klasik! Memang ‘blast’ habis. Lagu tentang peperangan udara World War II dari perspektif, pilot. Lirik memang feel habis. Kalau sambil dengar sambil follow lirik, memang semangat habis. Macam tengok filem perang wooo… Lagu ni countless bands dok cover. Tapi setakat yang aku dengar, nothing beats the original (who does anyway?) 5/5

2. 2 Minutes to Midnight (Smith, Dickinson) – Lagi satu lagu klasik. Siapa boleh lupa tengok TV Dari Panggung Anniversari dulu, SEARCH cover lagu ni. Walaupun bukan feveret sangat lagu ni tapi impaknya kuat tu. Dan part solo gitar memang best. Attack Murray/Smith. 4/5

3. Losfer Words (Big ‘Orra) (Harris) – Antara beberapa lagu instrumental IRON MAIDEN. Feveret aku ni! Guitar works banyak layered lepas tu banyak lari-lari. At the same time, sangat melodik dan infectious!Losfer Words = Lost For Words, ikut lidah British. Blank kot masa nak bagi tajuk lagu. Diikuti dengan Big ‘Orra = Big Horror. Hehehe… IRON MAIDEN juga dikenali dengan sense of humour sejati. Nak lagi bila drummer, Nicko McBrain masuk campur. 5/5

4. Flash Of The Blade (Dickinson) – Lagu underrated. Ikut kata, IRON MAIDEN sendiri tak pernah bawak lagu ni live? Tak pasti. Yang pasti, ramai fans dok request dari dulu sampai sekarang supaya IRON MAIDEN cover lagu ni. Seperti lagu Losfer Words, ianya dipenuhi dengan guitar works yang excellent dan melodi yang infectious. Liriknya berkisar tentang pemain pedang. Lihat pengubahnya, ye, Bruce Dickinson. Antara kelebihan beliau yang multi-talented tu ialah beliau ialah seorang ahli ‘fencing’ berkaliber tahap Olimpik. Sesuai sangat la pun lagu ni. 5/5

5. The Duellists (Harris) – Seperti tidak mahu kalah, Harris pun buat lagu ala-ala Flash of the Blade juga. Inspired dari filem dengan tajuk yang sama oleh Ridley Scott (1978) – nak kena cari filem ni. Lagu ni kurang sikit tapi still fans mau IRON MAIDEN main time live. Dua-dua lagu Flash dan Duellist ni mempunyai part instrumental yang sangat best. 4/5

6. Back In The Village (Smith, Dickinson) – Lagu paling kompleks untuk album ni, in terms of guitar work. Dan lagu paling laju? Feel lagu ni macam 2 lagu sebelumnya. Intricate and complex guitar works. Juga underrated sebab IRON MAIDEN tak pernah bawak lagu ni live. My theory, bukan pasal tak best tapi susah nak bawak live kot. Sebab dengar je dah tau lagu ni susah nak bawak. 4/5

7. Powerslave (Dickinson) – Lagu klasik. Problemnya cuma satu, agak panjang. Cecah 8 minit. Tapi perlu, sebab nak bawak elemen ‘epic’. Manakan tidak epik, lagu ni mengenai Firaun yang dari dulu menjadi subjek hangat dalam bidang sejarah dan antropologi. Musicwise, diberi suntikan Phyrgian dalam chord progression. Rasanya dah takde lagu IRON MAIDEN yang ala-ala lagu padang pasir ni. 5/5

8. Rime Of The Ancient Mariner (Harris) – TRULY KLASSIK!!! Aku siap cari buku poem ni kat library masa tu, yang menjadi inspirasi kepada lagu ni, karya Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Of course, poem tu memang tak boleh faham le, high standard literature. Epic lagu ni, lebih 13 minit. Part solo guitar dan instrumental lagu ini, pada aku, antara yang terbaik dari IRON MAIDEN. Aku boleh dengar part tu ulang-ulang sampai tertidur. Ralit sungguh. Dan sebagai homage kepada lagu ni, lagu Asyik (Langsuyr) yang durasinya 17 minit tu, adalah directly inspired by this song. Of course, mana boleh nak celen the klasik kan? 6/5

A truly klasik album I say. Kalau nak belajar minat IRON MAIDEN, boleh cuba album ni cuma kalau tak biasa dengan lagu-lagu yang kompleks dan intricate, mungkin ada problem nak devour la pulak.
